MAGNETS & MOTORS MULTIMODAL VOCABULARY

electric circuit
A system that connects electrical components so that they will operate.



electromagnet
An iron core that is surrounded by a coil of insulated wire. When and electric currant passes through the coil, the core becomes a magnet.



north-seeking pole
The end of a compass neddle or magnet that points to the north magnet pole of the earth.



repel
To push away: the oposite of attract.



attract
To draw to or toward itself.



controlled experiment
A scientific investigation in wich one varible is changed and all others are kept the same, or consistant.



electric current
A flow of electric charge through something.



geographic north pole
The northermost point on earth.



compass
A device that determines the presence of a magnetic feild and its direction.



data
Information such as gathered in an expirement.



experiment
A procedure that is carried out to investigate a scientific question.



hypothesis
A prediction about how somthing works or how two varriables are related.



magnet
An object made of iron, nickle or cobalt, or a combonation od these materials and that has the ability to attract or repel other magnetic materials.



magnetic field
A space or area in wich magnetic forces can be observed. If a magnetic field exists in an area, magnetic forces with deflect a compass needdle that is place in that area.



procedure
A set of steps that expains how to do somthing.



variable
An element in an experiment that can be change.
